Obaby's Christmas Gift Guide

With the festive season upon us and Christmas drawing ever closer, the talk at HQ has inevitably drifted to those inescapable seasonal dilemmas such as when is it acceptable to start playing ‘Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart’?, when should the tacky but much loved decorations be put up?, who’s going to organise the Christmas party? and of course, the big one – what gifts to buy.

We understand how difficult it can be making decisions this year when there’s more than enough on your Christmas plate, so we have decided to kindly compile Obaby parents a helpful gift guide with some seasonal highlights from our current range!

Obaby Sleigh Cot Bed

Nothing says Christmas more than Santa's jingle jangling sleigh, and what Obaby's Sleigh Cot Bed lacks in reindeer it makes up for in style, ideal for parents looking for a classic, elegant and festive option for baby’s sleep time. The exquisitely designed cot bed features a stylish scroll design at its head and foot and is available in country pine, white or dark wood. This Cot Bed would look perfect in any tot’s nursery, complete with a fur trimmed red stocking hung at the end on baby’s first Christmas morning.

Winnie the Pooh Bedding & Accessories

Our Disney licensed collection features a great range of small gifts and stocking fillers including adorable patchwork quilt and bumper sets for either cot or crib, a choice of cosy sleeping bags in 0-6 or 6-18 months, a soft to the touch fleece blanket, a hooded towel and a high quality wicker moses basket with decorative embroidered white bedding. All items are appliqu├ęd with a range of Winnie the Pooh character designs, and the variety of colours and motifs means a wide choice for those with Disney in mind this Christmas.

Tandem Triumph for the ABC Design Zoom!

After months of excitement and anticipation, the winners of 2015’s Mother & Baby Awards have finally been crowned and we are happy to announce that ABC Design’s Zoom Tandem has acquired one of the prestigious awards! The Zoom picked up a Bronze in ‘Best Multiple, Twin or Tandem Pushchair or Accessory’, beating out some stiff competition from a range of brands who entered the category. This is a well deserved triumph for one of the most stylish, innovative and adaptable twins on the market.

The Lowdown

German company ABC Design are a key market leader of cutting edge child mobility products, using technical innovation and inventive solutions to secure their place at the forefront of creative pushchair design. The ABC Design Zoom Tandem’s robust aluminium chassis facilitates the use of two travel options simultaneously; offering parents with a growing family endless combinations, meaning they can bespoke their pushchair according to their individual needs.

When adding two ABC Design Carrycots to the Zoom’s cleverly engineered frame, families can carry two newborns on the same system. Then, as children grow, either can be replaced in favour of the Zoom’s stylish seat units, with a choice of parent or forward facing directions. Finally, the addition of the ABC Design Risus car seats can convert the tandem into one of the most sophisticated travel systems on the market, while each option can be mixed and matched to suit your family.

With all these combinations, many would imagine that the Zoom Tandem would become cumbersome or unmanageable, but ABC Design has utilised their unique engineering expertise to add a range of ingenious features that ensure movement and manoeuvrability has not been compromised and using the Zoom is a thoroughly enjoyable experience for both parent and child.

Exclusive News

As the UK distributor for ABC Design products, Obaby are thrilled to announce that in 2015 ABC will be adding a creative splash of colour to their already highly competitive and innovative range of pushchairs and accessories. This will include the award winning Zoom Tandem, which will be available in a choice of colour combinations in which the seat units can be matched to suit each family’s tastes and requirements!

Kind + Jugend 2014

Early in September, Obaby gathered its popular range of stylish pushchairs and nursery furniture and joined with hundreds of fellow distributers and retailers from across the globe to be part of the world’s leading trade show - Kind and Jugend! The Obaby stand was a great success, exhibiting a selection of the brand’s classic strollers and high quality furniture alongside some brand new and exciting products which were making their welcome debut at the show.

Bright colours and patterns like those used in some of Obaby’s leading designs were used to decorate the stand. Zigzags were used in honour of the Chase 3 in 1 and Metis Plus and Leto Plus strollers, which all drew plenty of attention from the show’s visitors, while the Disney banners set the scene for an exclusive look at the new and yet to be released selection of Disney pushchairs, travel cots, highchairs and bath units (A first for Obaby!). Another big hit was the licensed Tiny Tatty Teddy range, which now features brand new single and twin strollers and a deluxe denim range, while design classics like the Little Cutie and Little Sailor proved another highlight, receiving some well-deserved praise from Kind and Jugend’s diverse and friendly customer base!

This year’s Kind and Jugend trade show also set the stage for German company ABC Design to present its new 2015 collection. ABC Design is a key market leader of cutting edge child mobility products, using their unique engineering expertise and creative solutions to secure their place at the forefront of inventive pushchair design. This year, fashion-forward design, technical refinement and innovative developments of proven models resulted in a convincing portfolio for the brand.

A show highlight was the launch of some of the brand’s best loved pushchairs in a compelling range of vibrant colour ways. Daring trends were balanced with colour classics to create an impressive choice for parents, enhancing an already outstanding selection of products such as the Cobra, the Mamba and the award-winning Zoom Tandem. Another hit was the brand’s eye-catching cup holders, which are part of their newly extended collection of accessories, while other popular extras like the ‘Sunny’ parasol have also been adapted to their new and bright colour options. The ABC Design stand was co-ordinated with all this in mind, manipulating colour within their layout to make a big impact! ABC Design is available in the UK through Obaby.

Mother & Baby and Kind + Jugend!

A few months ago we submitted a range of our products to the prestigious Mother and Baby awards! At the request of M&B, Obaby HQ have excitedly sent a selection of Obaby’s finest to a number of lovely parents around the UK to be rigorously tried and tested in their every day lives and then finally judged by the panel, who compile an elite shortlist for each category. Like the Loved by Parents awards, these accolades are awarded solely on the thoughts and opinions of mums and dads, based on the real life experiences they have had with their products, so winning, or even making the shortlist for one of these prizes is meaningful for more than just the title.

We have recently been informed that the testing period is now over, so fingers are remaining firmly crossed leading up to the announcement of the M&B shortlist on the 16th September.

We’ve also been extremely busy preparing for our stand at Cologne this month! Kind + Jugend is always a fantastic opportunity to meet potential customers from around the world and the high quality of the distributors and retailers that visit us there is always so impressive.

Our stand will feature a range of our products including our newly released collection of Metis and Leto strollers, along with their plus versions, the Chase Zigzag and our new licensed Tiny Tatty Teddy strollers, and will also see the return of ABC Design, with the most up to date versions of the Zoom, Cobra and Mamba being exhibited at our stand.

Safe to say, we are looking forward to another successful show and expanding the Obaby brand further around the world! We will be posting all the details in a post-Cologne blog later this month.

Summer: Awards & New Arrivals

It’s been an exciting month at Obaby and most of the buzz in the office has been centred around firstly our success at the Loved by Parents awards at the end of June. This was of great value to our brand, as winners are decided by the general public, and this year 50,000 mums and dads all over the globe cast their votes and gave us four silver and four gold awards in total for our Chase Pramette, Zezu Multi Tandem and ABC Design Zoom Tandem. For us, these awards are a seal of approval from the people that really matter and meant that spirits have been high at Obaby HQ.

With awards season in full swing we are also delighted to have been shortlisted for the Best Baby and Toddler Gear Awards which is run in conjunction with well known review sites Pushchair Trader and Mumii. We have 7 products in the running, including our Nanofold highchair, ABC Zoom Tandem and even our brand new Metis and Leto strollers.
Participating in a variety of awards this year has been exciting. Not only does it give us a chance to showcase and publicise our products but it also feels great to support websites like the brilliant parenting blog Loved by Parents and dedicated review sites like Pushchair Trader and Mumii, who are all committed to providing helpful and impartial advice to parents everywhere and assistance to those in need.

The arrival of summer has also meant the launch of a range of brand new products for Obaby. We’ve had the Metis, Metis Plus and Leto Twin and Leto Plus strollers arrive this month along with our new Tiny Tatty Teddy pushchair designs and also our long awaited Chase Zigzag. This has meant that we’ve been truly snowed under, from taking a multitude of orders in our sales office to writing press releases and newsletters in our Marketing department, everyone has been pitching in. With the successful launch of our Chase Pramette earlier this year, the Chase 3 in 1 in two striking zigzag designs I am sure will be a hit. There are so many bright and bold designs in our new collection, so we even started a new board on Pinterest for our Autumn/Winter inspiration, from zigzags for the launch of our new Chase to nautical themes taken straight from Obaby's Little Sailor:

Finally, we have been very sad to say goodbye to our lovely parent blogger Memo Mummy, along with Little Lady, Chappie and Baba last month. After Memo Mummy’s departure, there has been an Obaby-sized space in the blogosphere, but our brand new blog is now open for business and will be providing you with Obaby’s latest news, along with featuring insider information on Obaby’s day-to-day business and even a few exclusives! So watch this space for more special insight into the Obaby world!

THE SIMPLE THINGS IN LIFE

Over a month has passed since my return to work and as the saying goes “it feels like I’ve never been away.”  I’ve almost got the hang of getting the bags lined up ready to go and just about learnt how to string a sentence together.  Typically Baba blessed the ladies at nursery with his first rollover in his second week so I just hope that I get to see the first crawl and steps!
With all three children at home over the Easter period I needed to find some activities to keep everyone occupied.  Uncle and Aunty Roddie provided us with some huge goose eggs, which were blown.  Armed with paints and aprons we set about doing some decorating.  It was great fun, Little Lady, Peepa (Little Lady’s best friend) and Chappie, painstakingly did an undercoat before decorating them with patterns.  Even Baba had a go (well I put paint on his fingers and we did some finger prints between paint tasting!)  The finished products are proudly on display at home for all to see and they were a great way to pass the time.  Little Lady even took hers in to ‘show and tell,’ well actually she did the ‘tell’ and not the ‘show’ as I forgot to send it in to school.  (A week later it finally made its’ way in to school for the show!)
Little Lady came running up to me one day shouting “Chappie can jump” and bless him sure enough he was stood on the floor jumping.  It’s not something I’ve ever really thought about as sometimes your child ‘just does something’ and you can’t place a finger on when that something actually happened.  This milestone made it in to the little red book though, all thanks to Little Lady.
Today, Chappie has gone to nursery for the first time in ‘big boy pants’ so we will see how that goes.  I am hoping that with the encouragement of his little friends he will soon reach the milestone of being a fully fledged pant wearer.
As the weather seems to have finally reached a turning point we have been spending more time outside in the garden.  Chappie loves to cut the grass with his ‘ornmower’ it’s just a shame that it doesn’t actually do the job properly.  He even has the action of pressing the button and pulling the cord to start it and likes nothing more than walking up and down while his Daddy does the real thing.
A few days ago I was upstairs dressing Baba, when Little Lady and Chappie came clambering up.  I thought nothing of it, but when I looked at Little Lady she gave me the biggest shock.  Her beautiful long golden locks were no more and the words ‘mullet’ sprung to mind.  Oh dear, she had taken it upon herself to hone her hairdressing skills, not on the Girlsworld but on herself!  Yes, chunks were missing out of the front of her hair.  Not only had Little Lady practically scalped herself, Chappie also had a new cut too.  Not quite as noticeable but still obvious to those in the know.  Needless to say we had words regarding the appropriate use of scissors and an appointment at the hairdressers to try and disguise the damage.

At the end of the day it is great to look back and cherish those simple moments which make life as interesting as it is.  Who knows what the future may bring, as long as it’s no more hairdressing episodes I’m sure there will be lots more stories to tell.

Memo Mummy

NEW BEGINNINGS

Spring has sprung a time for new beginnings - perfect for the creation of the new Memo Mummy blog at Obaby.

As the Mum of 3 little treasures, all under 5, and with the end of my maternity leave looming ever closer, it was time to decide whether to return to work or become a full time stay at home Yummy Mummy. With ‘Little Lady’ who’s 4, ‘Chappie’ who’s 2 and ‘Baba’ who’s 9 months old, could I really fit in work as well?

Although I have a wonderful husband who helps out when time allows, I am the main carer in our family, generally responsible for our 3 children 24/7. However pushed for time I may find myself I wanted to return to work so that I had something else to focus on and achieve for me. I also feel that time spent away from my husband and I is beneficial for our children and has enabled them to start to develop the social skills which they need for the future.

My two older children have both used our excellent local nursery provider over the last few years, so the choice of childcare for my 9 month old was an easy decision.

Following discussions with work to finalise my hours my first day had nearly arrived. Getting ‘Little Lady’ to school on time was a chore, so how on earth would I get 3 children and myself out of the house on time? Well, the night before each bag was stocked with all of the necessities a child or Mummy may need, and then they were all lined up ready to be collected in the morning.

After a restless night, but a generally calm start to the day, we all piled in to the family car, bags and all, ready to go. Handing my 9 month old over to the lady at nursery I felt like I was abandoning him (his big brown eyes followed me out of the room,) but to be honest once I was at work it soon felt like I’d never been away.

I believe that time spent away from your children makes them appreciate you more. Nothing could make a Mummy or Daddy feel more special than when their child’s face lights up when they walk in to the room, just like Baba’s did when I collected him from his first full day as a big boy at nursery. He’d had a lovely day with his big brother ‘Chappie’ showing him the ropes.

A few days after my return to work my 4 year old daughter brought me a bunch of daffodils heart-warmingly saying “Happy Mother’s Day Mummy”. Although this kind gesture made me smile I couldn’t help but look out in to the garden where only a sorry bunch of green stalks remained!

As the Easter holidays are about to start I have been wondering how to keep 3 children entertained when we are all at home together. I think we will be planting some flowers to hide the stalks!

Watch this space for further updates from Memo Mummy.
